It's not just the Marines who pride themselves on becoming the best of the best, people who take on the daily challenges of most Extreme Sports see it not just as a sport, but a way of life that keeps body and mind in check.
Both these disciplines require a certain amount of fitness, plus with the rafting you need to be able to swim because it's pretty much guarenteed that you're going to fall in.
Mountaineering is very much stamina based, it's a long hard slug up and down so aerobic exercise is key to this. Walking is obviously the key so when you're off for a walk make sure you push yourself for a bit. There is also a need for some upper body strength not only to help with balance and control, but also because you will need to climb and pull yourself up the steeper sections.
Rafting is more of power sport, moments of frantic paddling where you need to put down the power quickly and hard. Upper body is the key here, strong arms to fit the rapids makes life a lot easier, plus it makes it more fun and not so much of struggle.
Core strength will also help with holding yourself in the boat when you're going down rapids.
Apart from that, both these activities are easily accessible by all so why not get yourself out there and give them a go.
Obviously being Extreme fit is one thing, but what about getting Marine fit.
