With the sun beating down on the 5.1 kilometre circuit, which offered a mix of both technical sections and longer climbs, the weather was perfect for the large numbers of spectators that amass at this event each year and have led to Offenburg being voted as the top cross country event of the year in 2008 and again in 2009.  

In the mens event it was the French man Julian Absalon who once again dominated in Offenburg, taking the win for the forth year in a row. It was his first win the 2010 season and saw him battling for the lead with current world champ Nino Schurter on the first lap as the pair broke away from the group. Working a small lead on the third lap, Absalon managed to put some distance between him and Schurter and the Swiss rider never caught back up, leaving Absalon to cross the line in 1:53:36, a full 49 seconds in front. Jaroslav Kulhavy took third, Christoph Sauser was forth and Florian Vogel was fifth.   

The ladies race was far from being a repeat of races past as Catharine Pendrel became the first Canadian rider in three years to don the leader's jersey in the World Cup series. Dominating the race, her only challenger was her American teammate Georgia Gould who managed to stay with the Canadian for the first two laps of the race before falling behind on the third, leaving Pendrel thrash it out on her own to take her first European World Cup win and the third World Cup victory of her career. Gould finished second with Esther Süss of Switzerland third, 2008 World Cup champion Marie-Hélène Premont in fourth and Elisabeth Osl taking fifth.
