Dave Mirra had CTE

BMX icon Dave 'Miracle Boy' Mirra, who died in February, was suffering from CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) at the time of his death, a University of Toronto neuropathologist has concluded.

This type of chronic brain damage has shown up in the brains of dozens of football players, but Mirra is the first action sports athlete to be diagnosed.   Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes with a history of repetitive brain trauma, that can lead to dementia, memory loss and depression.

Dave Mirra died on the 4th Feburary from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, his brilliance is sadely missed.
